FIREWORKS CLAY STUDIOS Jin Eui Kim Illusory optical effects are commonly experienced in two-dimensional fields, especially black and white Op art paintings. These phenomena brought me to question why that happens and what if these are applied onto three-dimensional ceramic artworks. To approach an answer to the problem and the principle of the illusory optical and spatial phenomena, I examine the key elements of creation of the illusory properties through reviewing both two and three-dimensional artworks which lead me examine the relevant theories and debates which create and develop the conceptual and visual framework. My work explores how the perception of three-dimensional ceramic forms can be manipulated by the application of arrangements of bands on their surfaces. Depending on the arrangement of tonal bands, using gradients of width, interval or tone and contrast, illusory spatial phenomena can appear and thus significantly influence the actual three-dimensional forms. www.axisweb.org/artist/jineuikim jinny_joy@hotmail.com
